I have wanted to go to Lewis and Harris in Scotland's Outer Hebrides for as long as I can remember. As an early 40th birthday present from my wife, Veronica, she, I and Fara rented an amazing cottage on the Isle of Lewis for a week and explored the island. This vlog is based in our favourite part of the island on the western coastline of Lewis around Mangersta and Mealasta.
Reflecting on the Future
So I finally managed to get my act together and record a vlog. Sorry it's been such a long time since the last one. I had to learn how to use Adobe Premier to edit this one too so my brain is now fried! Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy it for all its imperfection and screw ups!
Beaten and Blown
A cracking northerly storm kicked in over the north of Scotland. So, what better to do than to go out to the coastline between Portsoy and Sandend in Aberdeenshire, get some photographs and record a vlog!
Rock Hopping - Seascape Photography at Findochty, Scotland
Summer returns yet again to the Moray Firth. It's World Photography Day and, even though I completely forgot about that, I decide to take a photo walk to Findochty in Morayshire, Scotland and record a vlog of how I take my seascape images.
Moving Time - Timelapse, Landscape Photography
Vlog time again. Now that I have got my head around my new GVM motorised camera slider, I decided to take it out to Portknockie Harbour and get a timelapse and explain how the thing works.
Searching for Inspiration
Feeling a little uninspired recently, I decided to dig deep and go for a walk to Logie Head to the west of Cullen in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It did the trick and I am pleased with the three images that the outing yielded. Sometimes you just have to go and see what happens...
Sea Shots and Good Thoughts
The clouds are back! This means that middle of the day photography is actually doable. So, time then for me and Fara to take a wander down to the western side of Tronach Head between Portknockie and Findochty in Morayshire, Scotland, to get some good shots and thoughts.
Cliffs, Chasms and Crows - Part 2
Part 2 of my travel and photography vlog about my trip with Fara up to Caithness in the far north east of Scotland. Part of the North Coast 500, I had never been to this part of Scotland before and was keen to photograph the Duncansby Stacks. I didn't exactly how beautiful this part of Scotland this.
Sand, Stacks and Sheep - Part 1
Part 1 of my travel and photography vlog about my trip with Fara up to Caithness in the far north east of Scotland. Part of the North Coast 500, I had never been to this part of Scotland before and was keen to photograph the Duncansby Stacks. I didn't exactly how beautiful this part of Scotland this. Stay tuned for part 2 coming soon...
Wind and Waves
A very windy and warm day on the Moray Firth. Not the best day for seascape photography but I thought I had better get out and make a vlog as it has been some time. Sorry for the rubbish audio. It gets better once I start using my external recorder so bare with it.
I took Fara for a stroll up Kinoull Hill in Perthshire, Scotland. I was also in need of producing a vlog so this seemed a perfect opportunity!
Calm conditions on the coastline of Findochty in Morayshire, Scotland. This called for some calm time taking some calm images.
The Big Blue
What better to do on a sunny, summer's day than go for a walk with the dog along the coastline. Not the best for photography but still great to be out and about in Portknockie, Scotland.
I decided I needed to get outside to clear my mind and thought I may as well do a vlog while I was at it. Garblie Wood near Forgandenny in Perthshire, Scotland was the perfect venue.
Yup. As the title would suggest, I crashed my drone into a tree in Dunning Glen trying to get some epic B roll. You might say, "Well, don't fly it in a forest then!" And you'd be right...
The Simple Life
I couldn't wait for the clouds to part any longer so I got in the car and drove to Kincladie Wood near Dunning in Perthshire, Scotland, to take Fara for a walk and get a simple, little vlog.
Calm and Stable
I decided to go out to test the new DJI Osmo 2 near Path of Condie in Perthshire, Scotland, with Veronica and Fara.
Bright, Sunshiny Day
A spot of long exposure and aerial photography, plus fun times with Fara at Spey Bay in Morayshire, Scotland.
A sunny but windy, Spring day on the Moray Firth. So, so, sorry I say so, so many times! I applied the Scottish LUT to this vlog... Also, sorry about the sound. The wind was so strong. I’ll get it sorted soon with some sort of mic and separate audio recording.
Flying the Mavic Air on the Hill of Maud in Morayshire, Scotland.
Falling and Flying
Dawn photography down at Tronach Head near Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland. I fall over and get drenched...
Cold, Grey and Windy
I got bothered by an image thief on the beach!
I slept in and missed the sunrise...
Flying Through Trees
Testing out the DJI Mavic Air over and through forests
When the Beast fae the East hit Scotland!
Sunrise over Bow Fiddle Rock and Shitten Craig, Portknockie. If you can't be bothered to watch the photography tutorial, skip to the 3 minute mark! :-)
Fly Bow Fiddle
Drone, time lapse and long exposure photography of Bow Fiddle Rock at Portknockie in Morayshire, Scotland. This was my first flight of my new Mavic Air so it is a bit jerky. I'm sure I will get smoother in time.
No Words Needed
I thought it might be interesting to upload a video without me speaking. Thomas Heaton got the drop on me on this one though and probably did it with more class and finesse.
A seriously cracking day on Scotland's Moray Firth. What better way to spend it than to be out taking photographs with the dog!
Long exposure photography at sunrise over Bow Fiddle Rock, Portknockie, Scotland. Sorry for the noisy video quality at the start. It was very dark.
Cold and Slippy
A little vlog and tutorial on a photo walk I took up at the Glen Turret reservoir near Crieff in Perthshire, Scotland. It was cold, slippy, windy and beautiful. Thanks for watching and I hope you like the video. With any luck, this one is a bit more slick. I'm just getting started in this vlog scene!
Long exposure, seascape photography editing
A tutorial on how I edit my long exposure, seascape images using Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC.
Winter Photography in Perthshire
A better day for trying out the NISI 6 stop ND filter on the V5-Pro system. Nothing moving (ie. water or clouds) but still good for checking to see it doesn't leave a colour cast on the images. Also, you can't beat being out and about in the snow in Perthshire.
Testing NISI Filters' 6 stop ND - The Hermitage, Scotland
I have recently moved across to NISI Filters' V5-Pro system and just got their 6 stop ND. So, I thought I would take a little trip to the Hermitage forest near Dunkeld in Perthshire to test it out. Turns out it was one of the darkest days we have had this winter. Not ideal but still a good test. I am really happy with the result. I had to do no white balance or colour correction at all.
